The School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry warmly welcomed Professor Costica Bradatan as the 2023 Atkins Visiting Professor. Thank you to Dr John Atkins for his generous funding of the Atkins Visiting Professorship since 2014.

Listen: Professor Bradatan featured on ABC's Late Night Live with Phillip Adams on 17 August on the topic 'How to embrace failure and the consequences of the coup in Niger'.

Costica Bradatan is a Professor of Humanities in the Honors College at Texas Tech University, USA, and an Honorary Research Professor of Philosophy at University of Queensland. He is the author and editor of more than a dozen books, among which Dying for Ideas. The Dangerous Lives of the Philosophers (Bloomsbury, paperback, 2018) and In Praise of Failure. Four Lessons in Humility (Harvard University Press, 2023). Bradatan also writes book reviews, essays, and op-ed pieces for the New York Times, Washington Post, TLS, Aeon, The New Statesman.

Professor Bradatan presented the 2023 Public Lecture 'Against Conformity. Why We Fail and How' on 24 August and also delivered an outstanding HDR publishing workshop on 25 August with guest speakers: Clancy Martin - acclaimed author of the novel How to Sell (FSG),  David Rutledge from Radio National's The Philosopher's Zone and A/Prof Michelle Boulous Walker - Head of the European Philosophy Research Group (EPRG) and Associate Professor in Philosophy in the School of Historical & Philosophical Inquiry at UQ.
