In Memoriam - Rod Fisher

5 Jul 2017

Brisbane historians are saddened by the recent news of Dr Rod Fisher's unexpected passing in Brazil. Rod made an enormous contribution to Queensland's historical profession, firstly teaching Early Modern British history for decades after his arrival at UQ in 1974, and then as a founding member of the Brisbane History Group. After 1991 he was the driving force behind UQ's Applied History Centre, and helped establish public history and heritage studies in Queensland through the Professional Historians Association. His research and published work on Brisbane's social and architectural history continued unabated after his retirement in 2001, culminating in a recent three-volume series of papers published by Boolarong Press.

Rod's obituary recognises his significant professional achievements. We extend our condolences to Rod's family and close friends.
