Disciplines within the School maintain links with affiliated student groups and professional organisations.
Classics and Ancient History
The Classics and Ancient History Society (CAHS) is run by academic staff and students for students of Classics and Ancient History. Other interested persons are most welcome to join. The organisation holds a number of functions, but also seeks to provide student support and to foster a sense of belonging to the discipline of Classics and Ancient History. Philosophy
The Student Philosophy Association (SPA) regularly and frequently puts on its own seminars at which students of philosophy read and discuss their own papers, and socialize afterwards. The Association has its own library which is accessible to all members. An important event on the SPA calendar is the Annual Camp, which is attended by students and staff members. Office bearers are elected each October. Philosophy encourages the Association, and believes students of philosophy will find the SPA a stimulating group. The Australasian Association of Philosophy (AAP) is the professional organisation of academic philosophers in Australia and New Zealand. The purpose of the Association is to promote the study of philosophy in Australasia, and to co-ordinate professional activities. The AAP runs conferences; offers an annual prize for philosophy published in the popular media; and maintains a mailing list which carries news of relevance to our members. The Association also maintains a list of links to Graduate Programs in Philosophy in Australasia.
The Australasian Society for Continental Philosophy (ASCP) was established in 1995 as the revamped Australasian Society for Phenomenology and Social Philosophy. Its original aims were to provide a broad intellectual forum for academics, writers, artists, and postgraduates researching topics in Contemporary European philosophy, and to thereby become the region's premier reference point for people working within the diverse fields of Continental/European Philosophy.
The Exordium is a bi-annual student philosophy e-journal, run by UQ Philosophy students, that publishes high-achieving submissions relating to philosophy. History
The Australian Historical Association (AHA) was founded in 1973 and is the premier national organisation of historians working in all fields of history. Its members number more than 800, including universities, libraries and other affiliates. The association produces an online refereed journal, History Australia, published by Monash University Press. Benefits of membership include automatic print and online subscription to the journal, which is produced three times a year; access to the AHA email network; rights to present at AHA conferences and to discounted registrations.
The Australian and New Zealand Medieval and Early Modern Association (ANZAMEMS) exists to promote and foster all aspects of Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern Studies in Australia and New Zealand, and to establish and nurture productive professional friendships between scholars working in these areas. The Association actively supports postgraduates and early career researchers by offering Prizes and Bursaries to those attending our Biennial International Conference and through our commitment to fund annual Postgraduate Advance Training Seminars. Membership of ANZAMEMS includes a subscription to Parergon an A-rated journal produced by a sub-committee of members.
