The idea of discrete time has been too straightforwardly expelled from the metaphysical debate, leading to a rather arbitrary restriction of the philosophical scene. This research aims to defend the plausibility of that idea, as well as to evaluate its implications for some of the most debated issues in metaphysics and the foundations of physics, such as the substantivalism-relationalism controversy and the conceptual analysis of motion and speed. In particular, this investigation will lead to a better understanding of how these issues depend on the micro-topology of time, as well as to the introduction of previously unaccounted and more general solutions.
