By understanding how the topography of each settlement has influenced its original layout, we can interpret the development of the cities’ public spaces and civic buildings more effectively. City plans do not exist in a vacuum and are influenced by their environments and topographic conditions. In this presentation, I will discuss the impacts that topography has had on the subject cities of this thesis, providing an insight into how these features have helped shape the cities both at foundation, and as they have grown and developed
