The 2017 Taiwan Film Festival in Brisbane will be held at the University of Queensland in order to target not only a general audience in Brisbane, but also academics and students. The cultural and intellectual significance of the University of Queensland makes it a perfect space for opening up intriguing, inspiring, and educational conversations. There will be eight selected documentaries and drama films introduced in the film festival throughout the three-day event. Along with a variety of activities, such as a forum, and after-screen conversations, the film festival will bring together researchers from different fields and with research interests to dialogue from the historical perspective. With the diverse participation of the academics from different institutions in Australia and Taiwan, undergraduate and postgraduate students, common audience, people who work in the film industry, and the local community of Queensland, this event provides an opportunity to represent the strength and richness of historical research of the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry and the University of Queensland. 
   

forum, 'Documenting History, Approaching  Asia: Taiwan style' is also being held as part of the festival. The forum will be wide ranging and will explore the process of creating documentaries about Taiwan and capturing Taiwanese voices, how view of contemporary Taiwan and its linkage with East Asia and Southeast Asia are constructed. Dr Mei-fen KUO (School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry) will make an opening address and chair the forum. Prof. John Fitzgerald (President of Australian Academy of the Humanities), Dr Patrick Jory (School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry) and A/ Prof. Morris Low (School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry) and Prof. Chwei Liang Chiou (former Professor of Political Science, University of Queensland and former Senior Presidential advisor of Taiwan (ROC)) are guest speakers.
