Professional development

Professional development for Higher Degree by Research students

Each HDR milestone is an opportunity for you to reflect on the professional development that would benefit you as you progress through your candidature. Professional development consists of the short-training courses in generic or research-related skills that the UQ Graduate School (UQGS) and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) run free of charge. The suite of courses that the UQGS runs is called the Career Development Framework (CDF).

Short-training courses can help HDR students to maintain wellness while writing your research theses. By expanding your skills-set professional development gives you more employment options after you submit your thesis. Professional development can make it easier for you to make progress on your thesis and to keep going until you earn your HDR degree. Doing these courses strengthens your application to the UQGS for UQ Career Development Scholarship Extension of 6 months. There is also the possibility of undertaking a professional placement during your candidature.
