Presenter: Susan Edmondson (Mid-candidature review seminar)
Olisipo (Lisbon, Portugal) was a large and important port on the western fringe of the Roman empire. Following a brief introduction to the archaeological evidence for day-to-day life in the city, this paper will focus on the inscriptions found within Olisipo and its environs. Examples from the funerary, votive and civic areas of epigraphy will be discussed in order to provide evidence for a wide and varied population.
