Rethinking Eudaimonism in Greek and Neo-Aristotelian Ethics
29 July 2016 3:00pm–5:00pm
Presenter: Professor Iakovos Vasiliou (CUNY)
I aim to raise puzzles about eudaimonism as it is attributed to Greek ethical philosophers and as it has been taken up in contemporary philosophical discussions. The concept of eudaimonia is asked to play two roles: as an account of well-being and as a practical principle. I will argue that these two roles are in greater tension with one another than scholars and philosophers have appreciated.
