Associate Professors Martin Crotty (UQ) and Paul Sendziuk (The University of Adelaide) have recently completed  major survey of all University History groupings in Australia and New Zealand.  This paper will examine staffing in particular, looking at questions such as staffing types, locations, sector, seniority and gender. The paper will demonstrate, for example, that although we need to be careful about past staffing counts as they were conducted on a variety of bases, it appears that staff numbers overall have declined slightly since 2000 in Australia, but that significant progress has been made in addressing gender imbalances. The paper will look at staffing data overall, but will also break it down to compare Australian and New Zealand universities, and will look at differences between the G08 and non-G08 sectors in Australia.
